From Gaps to Roadmap: The Three-Step Conversion
Step 1: Triage by Score
LineaScore's S1–S4 scoring model provides the triage framework. Start with S1 Critical findings — these represent the highest-priority gaps with the most significant risk exposure. Move to S2 Significant, then S3 Moderate. S4 areas are maintaining well and can be monitored rather than remediated.
This triage prevents the common mistake of starting with the most interesting or visible problems rather than the most important ones. A client might want to upgrade their computers first; the assessment might show that untested backups and missing MFA represent far greater risk. The scores make the priority argument objective.
Step 2: Group by Project Type
Not all gaps require the same kind of remediation. Group findings into workstreams:
- Policy and documentation gaps — Low cost, high impact. Written policies, documented procedures, vendor contact lists. These can often be addressed in a focused administrative effort.
- Configuration and tooling gaps — Enabling MFA, deploying endpoint protection to missed devices, configuring backup monitoring. Often achievable within the existing managed service scope.
- Infrastructure investment gaps — End-of-life hardware replacement, network upgrades, server refreshes. These require budget and planning but have defined scopes.
- Process improvement gaps — Change management, security awareness training, patch management cadence. Require behavior change alongside tooling.
Step 3: Sequence by Quarter
Assign groups to a four-quarter roadmap. Q1 addresses the S1 Critical findings that can be resolved quickly — typically policy/documentation and configuration items. Q2–Q3 address higher-cost infrastructure investments with proper budget and project planning. Q4 reviews progress and identifies what the next assessment cycle needs to address.

Validating the Roadmap with the Next Assessment
The real test of a technology roadmap isn't whether it was executed — it's whether the next assessment shows improved scores in the areas that were addressed. LineaScore Pro's history tracking makes this validation straightforward: run the assessment at the start and end of each roadmap cycle and compare. The scores tell the story.
