Why Process Beats Improvisation

Many MSPs conduct security reviews informally — a walkthrough, a conversation, maybe a spreadsheet. These reviews often produce useful findings, but they lack the consistency to be compared across clients or over time, and they rarely produce the kind of polished documentation that builds client confidence.

A structured security review process changes the outcome. A Five-Step MSP Security Review Process

1. Scope the review — Determine which domains and areas apply to this client. Mark out-of-scope areas accordingly in LineaScore before beginning.
2. Conduct the assessment — Work through the 68 assessment areas with the client contact, scoring each area and capturing notes for anything that needs context or documentation.
3. Review findings before presenting — Check the overall score, section scores, and any High Risk or Weak areas that need to be framed carefully for a non-technical audience.
4. Present the report — Walk the client through the scored report, focusing on priorities rather than exhaustive detail. The report format is designed for this conversation.
5. Document next steps — Agree on 2–3 priority items and the timeline for addressing them. Schedule the next review.
